Pat Green is tipping his hat to one of Texas music’s most beloved traditions with the release of a brand new live recording of “Sangria Wine,” featuring Django Walker.
The song arrived on streaming services Friday and was recorded live in Luckenbach, Texas, making it an especially fitting tribute. The performance is the second preview from Pat Green’s upcoming live album, which was also recorded in the legendary Hill Country venue.
Originally made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker, “Sangria Wine” became a staple of Texas music after appearing on Walker’s iconic 1973 live album, ¡Viva Terlingua!. More than 50 years later, the song remains a singalong favorite at dance halls, festivals and concerts across the Lone Star State.
Having Jerry Jeff Walker’s son, Django Walker, join Pat Green on the recording makes the moment even more meaningful. Together, the two Texas artists celebrate a song that has become part of the state’s musical heritage while introducing it to a new generation of listeners.
