Apparently the last in a long, proud line of beer drinkers, Mike’s biggest regret in life is missing the “Silver Age” of brews like Falstaff, Jax, and Ballantine. These days, he’s making up for lost time by diving headfirst into anything that pours—craft, micro, macro, industrial, and the occasional questionable home brew.
With 35 years of experience as a professional critic across newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, and the internet (and, rumor has it, an entire childhood spent being pretty judgmental too), Mike brings a lifetime of knowledge and opinions to Drinking Texas Nights .
A history buff and pop culture junkie, Mike’s perfect day would include a round of golf, a flight of craft beers with the brewmaster, a whiskey tasting at a bourbon bistro, some taproom trivia, live music, and—if time allows—a little lunch.
He’s passionate about good Pilsners (even Flying Heart Brewery’s Day Wrecker, despite Brewmaster Ben’s attempt to kill him with that wonderful nectar), country music (the good kind), combat sports (strictly from the sidelines), and, of course, Little Debbie Zebra Cakes.
