Tim McGraw isn’t going to win the fictional Traditional Country Artist of the Year Award, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best vocalists of our time.
On Friday (August 21st) Tim released his 15th solo album ‘Here On Earth’. As far as radio plays go you’ll recognize the top 20 hit ‘I Called Mama’ a song that fits well with the other 15. At the very least ‘Here On Earth’ is a solid album, it may not stand out as much as others. One neat thing is the references of older songs subtly placed throughout.
We start off big with the theatrical sounding ‘L.A.’, there is a track or two that may come off a little more Hollywood than Nashville, but hey we never veer off to the land of bro. A place Tim has only visited a time or two, some folks are still scarred from ‘Truck Yeah’. The song that comes closest to that is the upbeat ‘Good Taste In Women’ but I’m a fan.
There are a handful of tracks that take a more series tone. Such as the beautiful ‘War Of Art’, it’s a mix of a love letter and expressing the struggles of what he gets to do for a living. “I ain’t tryin’ to hurt nobody, I’m just hoping that my broken, put’s some hope in another broken heart, yeah I’m just another soldier fighting the war of art”.
The finale track is probably the most traditional of the bunch with ‘Doggone’. But the song that stands out as the most Tim McGraw is ‘Damn Sure Do’ there’s a note or two that he throws in there that you know only he could hit.
