Toby Keith’s legacy will have a permanent home at the University of Oklahoma.
OU has announced that a new student-athlete facility will be named the Toby Keith Family Performance Center following a significant philanthropic commitment from the Keith family. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with completion scheduled for 2028.
The Oklahoma native and country music icon was a longtime supporter of the Sooners and had especially close ties to the university’s baseball program.
“Naming this performance center in Toby’s honor is something that truly reflects his impact, and his legacy will continue to live on,” OU head baseball coach Skip Johnson said. “Toby changed so many lives, and this player development facility will further change the lives of future student-athletes that step foot into the building.”
Keith’s widow, Tricia Covel, said the family is proud to continue supporting a program that meant so much to him.
“We’re proud to support Skip, this program and these student-athletes, and to carry forward something Toby cared so deeply about,” Covel said on behalf of the family. “I know he would have loved being a part of it. We’re honored to help shape this next chapter and excited to see what the future holds for Oklahoma Baseball.”
Keith was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, and grew up in the Oklahoma City area before becoming one of country music’s biggest stars. Throughout his career, he remained closely connected to his home state and was a familiar presence at OU sporting events.
