Texas music legend Ray Wylie Hubbard is lending his unmistakable voice to a new campaign from Tecovas, and this one tells a story that’s bigger than boots.
The Austin-based bootmaker has teamed up with INVERSA, a company that creates leather from invasive species, for a new collection made from Burmese python leather. The snakes have become a major environmental problem in Florida’s Everglades, where they prey on native wildlife and have disrupted the ecosystem after being introduced through the exotic pet trade decades ago.
The cinematic short film, narrated by Hubbard and featuring artist Elle Barbieto, opens with a simple message:
“In the Everglades, Burmese pythons are beautiful, powerful, and deeply out of place.”
Rather than letting the invasive snakes go to waste after they’re removed, INVERSA transforms the hides into premium leather. Tecovas is using that leather for a limited collection of boots and accessories for both men and women. The company says the collaboration is intended to help support Everglades restoration while giving new purpose to a destructive invasive species.
The Tecovas x INVERSA collection is scheduled to launch Wednesday, July 16th.
