Dolly Parton has announced that DOLLY: A True Original Musical will open this winter at St. James Theatre, with opening night set for January 19, 2027, which also happens to be the country music icon’s 81st birthday.
The musical will tell the story of Parton’s extraordinary life and career through the music that made her a legend. Along with many of her biggest hits, the production will also feature brand-new songs that she wrote specifically for the show.
“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really! We have a wonderful director, sets, costumes, choreography, music and all the things you need to make a wonderful, entertaining show! Can’t wait to see you there!” Parton said in a statement.
The book for the production was co-written by Parton and Emmy Award-winning writer Maria S. Schlatter. Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher will direct the production.
Fans won’t have to wait long to grab tickets. Fan presales begin Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. Eastern, with tickets going on sale to the general public Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. Eastern.
For Parton, whose songwriting catalog includes timeless classics like Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You, the Broadway production marks another milestone in a career that has already spanned more than six decades. Now, audiences will get to experience the story behind the songs on one of the world’s biggest stages.
