George Strait may have wrapped up his historic run at Austin’s Moody Center, but the arena made sure his legacy will live inside the building for years to come.
During Strait’s final weekend of shows at the venue, Moody Center officially unveiled a brand-new backstage lounge dedicated to the King of Country. The space is called “The Troubadour,” a nod to Strait’s GRAMMY-winning 2008 album and the iconic title track that became one of the defining songs of his career.
Designed to feel like an old-school Texas honky-tonk, the lounge is packed with personal touches tied to Strait’s legacy and Texas roots. Inside, artists and guests will find a restored vintage jukebox loaded with George Strait music, a burnt orange pool table, neon signage, and carefully selected roadhouse-style décor. One of the standout features is a bronze plaque permanently set into the floor featuring Strait’s famous boot prints.
Moody Center executives said the tribute was meant to recognize not only Strait’s legendary career, but also his connection to the arena itself. George Strait helped open the venue back in 2022 alongside Willie Nelson and recently returned for a sold-out four-night run that brought more than 60,000 fans through the doors.
“This lounge is more than just a space,” said Jeff Nickler, President of Oak View Group Austin and General Manager of Moody Center. “It’s a tribute to an artist whose music and presence helped define the Moody Center from day one.”
The lounge will remain part of Moody Center’s backstage hospitality area and will be reserved for touring artists and industry guests, serving as a permanent reminder of George Strait’s impact on Texas music and the venue itself.
