Eric Church made it all the way through nearly his entire Free the Machine Tour without a scratch … until the very end.
Just 48 hours before the final weekend of shows, Church broke his foot. Not on stage, not doing anything wild … but from kicking a suitcase in his hotel room.
Yeah. A suitcase.
He told the crowd he jumped out of bed, forgot it was there, and nailed it hard enough to break his foot. Not exactly a rockstar injury story, but honestly, that might make it even better.
Instead of canceling, though, Church showed up in a walking boot and played the show anyway.
And not a shortened set either.
He still powered through a full performance, telling fans, “What I lack in mobility, I’m gonna make up in passion.”
That’s exactly what he did.
The Jacksonville stop still got the full experience, including a lengthy setlist and all the elements that made this tour stand out. The Free the Machine Tour has been one of his more unique runs, featuring a full choir, orchestra, and evolving stage setup throughout the night.
And in a little bit of perfectly-timed irony, he even played “These Boots”… because of course he did.
At that point, you kind of have to lean into it.
