On this date 35 years ago, Mark Chesnutt officially struck gold. Back in 1990, the Beaumont, Texas native received his very first Gold album from the RIAA for his breakout record Too Cold at Home.
The album didn’t just put Chesnutt on the map, it helped define the sound of ’90s country. The title track cracked the Top 5, “Brother Jukebox” shot all the way to No. 1, and the whole project showcased Chesnutt’s mix of East Texas grit and smooth honky-tonk heart.
Three and a half decades later, Too Cold at Home is still spinning in Texas dancehalls and on country radio, proving that real-deal country music never goes out of style.
Here’s to Mark Chesnutt celebrating 35 years of country history that’s still too good to leave at home.
