Renowned actor and movie star Carl Weathers passed away Friday at the age of 76, his family announced.
Weathers is best known for his role as boxer Apollo Creed in Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky franchise, “Predator” and “Happy Gilmore,” and television shows like “Arrested Development” and “The Mandalorian.”
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Weathers was as much a star on the field as he was on the big screen. He played linebacker at San Diego State and for the Oakland Raiders in 1970-71 choosing to pursue acting full time.
