Two-time Grammy Award winner Dwight Yoakam will headline the 8th annual Outlaws & Legends Music Festival on March 23-24 in Abilene. Reckless Kelly, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Mark Powell, Koe Wetzel and other top names and rising stars in country music will take the outdoor stage for a music-filled weekend among the mesquite at the Back Porch of Texas, just northwest of town.
With 15 Main Stage artists and seven Balcony artists, this year’s festival promises to be the biggest and best Outlaws & Legends yet. The award-winning event is produced by Backporch Productions, and past years have attracted more than 7,000 music fans from the United States and abroad. VIP packages are popular and sell out quickly, and more than 315 RV and 40 Tailgate spaces sold out last year.
New to the festival are several seating and package options: The Legends Loft features enclosed elevated two-story box suites; reserved first-row RV passes; four new Tailgate Packages; and two new Music Row Packages.
The festival kicks off at 2 p.m., March 23 with a performance by Abilene-native Jerrod Medulla, followed by wall-to-wall music until 11 p.m. when Reckless Kelly takes the Big Country Chevy Stage. The winner of the songwriter competition will open the show at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Performances continue all day with headliner Dwight Yoakam rocking the crowds at 9:30 p.m.
The festival has raised more than $1 million for Abilene non-profits. Since 2013, a portion of festival proceeds has benefited the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, a nonprofit residential home for children.
