Concordia University in Austin will be hosting the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) Regional Championship Speech and Debate Tournament May 1-4, 2019. NCFCA is a national organization cultivating the next generation of leaders with the communication skills necessary to effectively share ideas with a wide audience in the areas policy, philosophy, theatrical interpretation, and other forms of speech. Please feel free to visit www.ncfca.org to explore our mission.
This regional championship tournament will provide competition for over 300 middle and high school students from across Texas and Oklahoma in both Lincoln Douglas and Team Policy debate, as well as various prepared and limited preparation speech events.
Over 200 community volunteers are needed throughout the three day event to evaluate the students. NCFCA students rely on the judges from all walks of life to provide valuable feedback for improvement, growth, and encouragement. No previous experience in either speech or debate is necessary to judge.
Judging each round is a three hour commitment which includes a 30 minute judge orientation, the actual round, and time to fill out the ballot with feedback. Volunteers may judge as little as one round on one day or as many as several rounds over all three days. Complimentary snacks, and beverages will be provided.
The first debate round orientation begins at 7:15 a.m. each day and the first speech round orientation begins at 9:15 a.m.each day. Rounds continue throughout the day with the last round beginning at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday and 5:15pm on Wednesday. Thursday rounds will be those students who have advanced from the preliminary events the previous two days. The judges can be assured they will be impressed with the caliber of speeches and debates heard. The most common feedback from community judges after they have completed judging is they feel hopeful for our country’s future hearing youth who express themselves so clearly and eloquently.
