Eric Pasaly’s new song ‘On This Side Of Heaven’ is a tearjerker.
For those of you who don’t know, Eric is a local boy. Born in Abilene, and a Temple high school graduate. Back when I worked in the Temple market I was reminded of that fact regularly. Well deserved pride of the town.
Anyway, his new song has a lot to it. First, I hear the lyrics suggesting that the woman he loves didn’t just leave him, but has moved on from this world. Going through hell on this side of heaven are the kind of lyrics anyone going through any type of loss, breakup, etc, can relate to.
Secondly, the slow build is something Eric has mastered. The drums steadly climb, you get a full orcasta sound and then just like that you’re back to where you were and none the wiser.
Eric really is a chameleon when it comes to the kind of songs he creates. He’s had hyper, upbeat hits with ‘Friday Night’ and ‘High Class’, but this one reminded me of one of my favorites ‘She Don’t Love You’.
‘On This Side Of Heaven’ will be part of his upcoming July EP ‘Heartbeat Higher’. The 37-year-old hasn’t released a full-length album since his 2014 self titled hit.
