Four years ago today we said goodbye to music legend Prince.
The pop icon impacted musicians and artists everywhere and in every genre. Countless country artists covered his songs, so we’d like to share a few of our favorites.
Chris Stapleton could sing any song and kill it. Here’s a perfect example, shortly after Prince’s death while performing at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California, Chris covered Prince’s song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” oh and it was his first time performing the hit.
Dwight Yoakem has the most country sounding cover of the famous ‘Purple Rain’. Which of course makes it quite possibly the best version.
Just about every artist has covered purple rain at some point in their career. So how about one more from Darius Rucker. The Hootie and the Blowfish frontman sang it at a Nashville show less than two months after Prince’s death.
Finally, Prince didn’t just inspire country music. He also created it. Under the persona Joey Coco prince wrote a number of songs for the late Kenny Rogers, including ‘You’re My Love’.
