Do you need a non-Covid-19 to brighten your day? Here you go!
Cadbury, the beloved maker of the Easter season’s cream filled chocolate candy, launched a casting call earlier this month to all pets across the US to find a new mascot. Over 4,000 animals entered the contest and the company narrowed down those entries to 10 finalist.
“The quantity and quality of entries for the Cadbury Bunny Tryouts this year just blew us away,” Cadbury Brand Team member Ethan Mandel said in a statement. “Now the excitement builds as we let the fans, for the first time ever, vote to help select the next Cadbury Bunny for our 2020 commercial.”
After nearly 200,000 Internet votes, an Ohio coonhound named after the character in “Forrest Gump” has clinched the prize!
Meet Lieutenant Dan.

As well as scoring the gig as Cadbury’s Brand Ambassador, Lt. Dan has become a social media sensation. His adoptive Mommy Laura Weber told CNN that Dan was born with a “deformity” in his back paws and his tail so he had to have them amputated, but being special has never slowed him down! The Lieutenant gets around just fine thanks to his handy set of back wheels.
As soon as it is safe, Dan will host a huge party to celebrate – but in the meantime he will be receiving $5,000 and Cadbury has also donated $10,000 to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Congratulations, Lieutenant Dan!
