NASCAR driver Ryan Newman was released from the hospital on Wednesday, February 20 two days after a horrific crash at the Daytona 500 race.
Newman’s car hit the curb during the race, then proceeded to flip several times before landing and bursting into flames. Newman was declared stable after the race but his injuries were unclear. This accident comes 19 years after Dale Earnhardt crashed in a similar fashion and died. Many of the safety features that were implemented after Earnhardt’s death are believed to have save Newman’s life from his crash.
“The veteran driver is fully alert and walking around Halifax Medical Center. True to his jovial nature, he has also been joking around with staff, friends and family while spending time playing with his two daughters. Ryan continues to express his appreciation for the outpouring of support from across the country, and he and his family are grateful for the immense level of support that has been provided by the NASCAR community and beyond.” Roush Fenway Racing statement
Roush Fenway Racing has announced that Ross Chastain will fill in for Ryan Newman starting this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) in the No. 6 Wyndham Rewards Ford.
