What started out as a covers album turned out to be an all original album, set to be released on March 6th and will include the track, “Cactus Flower”. The song was penned by Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry who joins members John Abbott, Jon Baumann, and William Clark Green.
The song was inspired at first by the writing prompt initiated by Abbott, “ladyfinger cactus”, then became more personal.
“I didn’t even know what that was. So I decided to write one called ‘Cactus Flower’ and showed it to Josh…I wrote it for my fiancée. I was trying to imagine this kind of a rugged character who’s beautiful but so hard to figure out. It’s a west Texas love song, I guess.”- Cleto Cordero
The Panhandlers have 3 shows coming up starting in March, the first one to be at Gruene Hall.
