Minka loves to leisurely explore the neighborhood…. snort, snort, sniff, sniff. Then every once in awhile, she’ll do zoomies around in a circle. It doesn’t last long but it sure is cute to watch!
If you’re looking for a super low-maintenance pup that loves naps and cuddles, then look no further! This short and stout lady has proved to be the perfect houseguest in her foster home. Minka greets you with the biggest smile when you get home, but until then this sweet potato happily spends her day lounging and napping. She’s so well-behaved that her foster mom lets her hang out in the living room, crate-free while she’s at work. Being the proper princess that she is, Minka has no interest in chewing up anything she shouldn’t. She waits patiently to be invited onto the couch where she will happily snooze for hours snuggled next to her human friends. Then when it’s time to go potty, she’ll saunter over to the door and let you know that it’s time to go.
While she prefers spooning with her person at night, she’s also content to sleep on her own bed. As long as Minka’s close to her people, she’s a happy little girl! Napping isn’t her only hobby though. Minka also loves the great outdoors and while out on walks, her tail never stops wagging, regularly looking back at her human with that big smile on her face, snorting and snuffling with glee. She’ll even stop to get her pot-belly wet in the pond. Then she’s ready to get back home and chill with her person.
Minka is also in APA!’s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, she has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to learn skills like sit and down, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told “free,” coming when called and “place”, which means she will go to a specific place in your home on command. As part of APA’s Total Obedience Program, you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Minka after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together.
