The Ameripolitan Awards are coming home to Austin.
After taking two years off, Dale Watson’s Ameripolitan Awards & Weekender will return April 16–18, 2027, and this time the event is joining forces with Austin’s long-running Lone Star Round Up.
Watson founded the Ameripolitan Awards in 2014 as an alternative to mainstream country music awards, recognizing artists carrying on the traditions of honky tonk, outlaw country, Western swing and rockabilly. Over the years, the event has honored everyone from established legends to independent artists who rarely receive recognition from the mainstream country music industry.
The awards began in Austin before spending several years in Memphis. Ameripolitan returned to Austin in 2024 for its biggest event yet at the Moody Theater, but organizers later announced the awards would take a break because of the significant cost involved in producing the show.
Now they’ve found a new way forward.
For 2027, Ameripolitan is partnering with the Lone Star Round Up, the annual Austin gathering celebrating vintage hot rods, custom cars and live music. The two events share plenty of the same roots music and retro culture, and organizers say the partnership will create an entire weekend built around cars, music and the Ameripolitan community.
The weekend will run April 16–18 and culminate Sunday night with the Ameripolitan Awards. Organizers say the 2027 ceremony will be a more intimate affair than the large-scale 2024 show at the Moody Theater.
Nominations are already open for the 2027 Ameripolitan Awards, including the Honky Tonk, Outlaw, Western Swing and Rockabilly categories, along with recognition for venues, festivals and radio DJs.
