Don’t even think of trying to trick Dolly Parton into answering a question she doesn’t want to answer, especially about politics. David Wright of ABC’s Nightline learned that in a recent interview, during which he brought up the subject of politics and was elegantly shut down by the country legend.
“We have a President of the United States that said those things on that bus,” Wright said to her.
“I’m not addressing that,” she said defiantly. “I’m do not get into that. Of course I have my opinions about everybody and everything. But I learned a long time ago to keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business. I’m not in politics. I’m an entertainer.”
“I’m not being political,” Dolly said matter-of-factly. “I don’t do politics. I’m not getting into any of that, because I have a lot of fans out there and I don’t want to offend anybody. And besides, I just don’t get into that. So if you decide you may want to ask me something more serious, don’t, because I’m not gonna answer it!”
“Fair warning,” David replied. “I might still ask.”
“You can still ask, but I might still tell you where to put it,” Dolly said with a laugh.
