Cody Johnson took home Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards last night, and his acceptance speech was classic CoJo.
He thanked God, his wife Brandi for never giving up on him, and reflected on all the moments in life where he felt like he probably shouldn’t even be standing on that stage in the first place. It was humble, emotional, and very Cody Johnson.
Cody Johnson closed out the ACM Awards with his first-ever Entertainer of the Year win, and his acceptance speech turned into one of the most emotional moments of the night.
CoJo reflected on being a kid with a fake microphone duct-taped to his bunk bed singing Rick Trevino songs, saying all he ever wanted to do was stand in front of a crowd and entertain people. He even gave Trevino a special shout-out during the speech for inspiring him growing up.
Then came the moment nobody expected. Cody dedicated the award to fellow nominee Luke Combs, praising him for the sacrifices he’s made for country music and his fans over the years.
It was humble, heartfelt, and a reminder why so many people connect with Cody Johnson in the first place.
