Kacey Musgraves made her return to Coachella over the weekend, and instead of playing it safe, she took on a George Strait classic… just with a twist.
Right in the middle of her set, Kacey jumped into “All My Ex’s Live in Texas.” But this wasn’t your standard cover.
She told the crowd ahead of time she was doing it from her own perspective, and then immediately proved it.
“Okay, listen / Stephen down in Stephenville / Drank too much Patron / Richard down in Richardson / Won’t pick up the phone,” she sang.
“Cody in Midlothian / Now, he’s doing time / Sometimes you’ve gotta learn to love it / Or leave it all behind.”
And she didn’t stop there.
“I left my shirt in Fort Worth / With some old college fling / That Houston guy had the bluest eyes / But I forgot his name …”
“Some asshole down in El Paso / He left my heart all broke… everything’s bigger down there / So I’m sad that I can’t go.”
She kept the iconic chorus intact, so you still got that classic George Strait moment, but the verses were fully Kacey and completely unfiltered.
Give her performance a watch in the clip above.
