Ashley McBryde has released the official music video for her new song “Lines In The Carpet,” offering another preview of her upcoming album Wild.
The video centers around a family sitting in a car, capturing a tense and quiet moment that mirrors the message in the song.
“She keeps pushing that Dyson everyday all over again / And he’ll come home from work tonight and walk all over them.”
Although McBryde did not write the track, she says it still resonates deeply. “Lines In The Carpet” was written by Caroline Watkins, Lauren Hungate, and Lori McKenna.
“I see so many women I know in this song,” she shared. “There’s no promise in the lyrics that things are going to change or get better. It just stays with that feeling of being contained, and knowing that the person you’re with is completely oblivious to everything you’re feeling.”
The song ties into the theme of her upcoming album Wild, which is set for release on May 8th.
“This record is about getting back in touch with the Wild within,” McBryde said. “I think part of that means taking a good long look at what keeps us caged.”

“Lines In The Carpet” Lyrics:
He don’t hear her say “god dammit”
When she’s Cloroxing the granite
She’s just like ceramic ’bout to break
He don’t see her tears on that floor
When she’s dusting off the baseboards
Feels like that’s all she’s made for nowadays
She won’t tell him
He ain’t asking
Throw another towel in the laundry basket
She ain’t happy
But what she needs she can’t buy at the supermarket
She’s a mess, but the house is clean
As the cover of Better Homes and Gardens
And he can’t read between the lines in the carpet
No, he can’t
He splits his time between the golf course
And gin and tonics on the back porch
He don’t talk to her much no more, he only yells
The kids and pot roast keep her busy
’Cause when you’re born that pretty
You get to be Miss Mississippi and nothing else
She won’t tell him
He ain’t asking
Throw another towel in the laundry basket
She ain’t happy
But what she needs she can’t buy at the supermarket
She’s a mess, but the house is clean
As the cover of Better Homes and Gardens
And he can’t read between the lines in the carpet
She keeps pushing that Dyson everyday all over again
And he’ll come home from work tonight and walk all over them
He ain’t changing
She ain’t leaving
Because he doesn’t hit her, and the kids are sleeping
She ain’t happy
But what she needs she can’t buy at the supermarket
She’s a mess, but the house is clean
As the cover of Better Homes and Gardens
And he can’t read between the lines in the carpet
No, he can’t
