Jo Dee Messina is kicking off a brand new chapter with the release of her latest song, “Some Bridges.”
The track arrived today along with an official music video and serves as the first single from her upcoming album Bridges, which is expected later this year. The project will mark Messina’s first full studio album in more than a decade, a big moment for fans who grew up on hits like “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” “Bye Bye,” and “I’m Alright.”
“Some Bridges” leans into a powerful message about knowing when it’s time to walk away from things that no longer serve you.
Messina says the idea came from a conversation about the old advice that you should never burn bridges. But she realized that sometimes those bridges lead back to places that aren’t healthy.
The song was written with Nashville writers Kat Higgins and James T. Slater, and longtime collaborator Chris Lord-Alge handled the mix. Lord-Alge also worked on several of Messina’s classic ’90s hits, which helps give the new track a familiar feel for longtime fans.
If “Some Bridges” is any indication, Jo Dee Messina still knows exactly how to deliver a song with something to say.
