Texas music legend Robert Earl Keen picked up another major honor recently, but this one had a little less to do with music and a lot more to do with the outdoors.
Keen was recognized with the 2026 T. Boone Pickens Lifetime Sportsman Award from the Park Cities Quail Coalition, an organization focused on wildlife habitat conservation and protecting quail populations across Texas and the southern U.S. The award goes to folks who’ve lived a life of adventure, have a deep love for the outdoors, respect the land and wildlife, and give back so others can enjoy the sporting life too.
Of course, most of us know Robert Earl Keen for his legendary songwriting career and decades of influence on Texas and Americana music. But if you know anything about REK, you also know he’s always been tied to the outdoors and Texas traditions that go way beyond the stage.
Keen shared on social media that he was honored by the recognition and grateful to be included among past recipients like Jerry Jones, Kevin Costner, and George Strait.
And now he can add T. Boone Pickens Lifetime Sportsman Award recipient to the list of honors.
