Texas artist Ashton Naylor has dropped his latest single “Barkeep” featuring Randy Rogers, available everywhere today.
The track was written by Naylor and centers around a classic country theme: wanting someone who’s just out of reach. In this case, it’s the bartender. It’s a slower, dance hall-style song that lets the story breathe and gives both voices room to shine.
“I wanted to capture the essence of wanting someone that’s just out of reach. I think everyone knows that feeling,” Naylor shared about the release.
Rogers also weighed in, saying he’s enjoyed getting to know Ashton and calling the song “country to the core.”
If you’re still getting familiar with Ashton Naylor, he’s originally from San Marcos and grew up listening to everything from Willie Nelson to Pearl Jam. He picked up guitar during college, later studied music at South Plains College in Lubbock, and is now attending Texas State University while continuing to build his career back in Central Texas.
His influences include Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, and Tom Petty, blending country, blues, and Americana into his sound.
With “Barkeep,” Naylor adds another Texas collaboration to his growing catalog.

Lyrics:
Was talking to a friend of mine
Makin sure the timings right
Sitting on the other side
Of your balcony
Considering the circumstance
I know I shouldn’t take a chance
Cause you ain’t gonna wanna dance
When you’re off at three
All of a sudden the world starts spinnin
Must be the gift that keeps on givin
Another night another dream I’m living without you
I’m talkin bout my favorite band
Musta been ya heavy hand
A joke I know will never land
But I tell anyway
I’m feelin like a fool again
Thinkin we were more than friends
But I saw ya neck break when he walked in
What a slap in the face
And all of a sudden the world starts spinnin
Must be the gift that keeps on givin
Another night another dream I’m living without you
Ain’t it just the way it goes
I guess I probably ought to close
But another fore I candy up my nose
And I’ll be on my way
