Country music star Vince Gill has just been named the 2026 recipient of the Ken Burns American Heritage Prize, a special honor that celebrates people whose work has helped deepen our understanding of America’s heritage and spirit.
Named for acclaimed filmmaker the prize is presented by American Prairie and recognizes artists, authors, educators, and others whose achievements reflect the best of the American story. Gill joins an impressive list of past honorees.
Gill will be formally honored with the award on May 6, 2026. The singer-songwriter and Country Music Hall of Famer has long been respected not just for his music, but for the way his songs connect with people and reflect American life.
In accepting the award, Gill said it’s an incredible honor and spoke about the meaningful work American Prairie is doing to preserve the Great Plains, a landscape that has shaped so much of this country’s history.
It’s always great to see artists who’ve shaped our soundtrack get recognized not just for hits on the charts, but for their contributions to American culture at large.
