It’s official!
Tennessee has put some well-deserved respect on Dolly Parton’s name. Governor Bill Lee has proclaimed January 19th as Dolly Parton Day across the entire state, just in time for Dolly’s 80th birthday.
Born on January 19, 1946 in Sevier County, Dolly’s story has always been tied to Tennessee. She didn’t just come from the Volunteer State, she carried it with her through decades of music, movies, philanthropy, and pure Dolly magic.
The proclamation highlights not just her career, but her impact: the books she’s helped put in children’s hands through Imagination Library, the communities she’s supported through the Dollywood Foundation, and the way she’s represented Tennessee on a global scale without ever losing that hometown spark.
Governor Lee noted that Dolly “embodies the values of the Volunteer State and inspires people far beyond its borders,” which feels just about right. Few people have managed to become an icon without becoming unrelatable … Dolly has done both.
So now, every January 19th, Tennesseans officially get to celebrate someone who’s been part of the state’s soundtrack, identity, and heart for nearly eight decades.
Happy Dolly Parton Day, y’all. 💛
