Country music legend Dwight Yoakam is using his star power for a great cause this Grammy Week. On Wednesday, January 28, he’ll headline the inaugural Dwight Yoakam & Friends: Rockin’ for the Kids benefit concert at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles and all proceeds will go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
Yoakam isn’t doing this just because he loves to perform, there’s a personal story behind it. A few years ago, during the height of the pandemic, he and his wife Emily found themselves in CHLA’s care with their infant son. While everything ultimately turned out fine, that experience gave them a firsthand look at the hospital’s work and the families it serves.
Inspired by those memories and by Emily’s earlier volunteer work at another children’s hospital, the couple teamed up with Dr. Mark Krieger of CHLA to create an annual fundraising event. That idea grew over time and eventually became Rockin’ for the Kids … a night of great music supporting an important mission.
The evening will be presented by Dwight Yoakam along with actor Billy Bob Thornton and producer/director McG, who will also emcee the show. Yoakam will perform with his band, and special guests including Charley Crockett, Marcus King, and Lukas Nelson are set to join the bill, with more artists to be announced.
Tickets go on sale January 14, and a limited number of VIP and sponsor packages are available. All funds raised will benefit CHLA and its mission of caring for children and families in need.
