If you grew up in Texas, you already know the phrase “Don’t Mess With Texas” isn’t just a slogan, it’s a mindset. And now, 40 years after the campaign first launched, it’s getting a new voice with a familiar Texas name behind it.
Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, is the new spokesperson for the iconic anti-litter campaign, helping celebrate four decades of keeping Texas roads clean.
In the new video, Post tips his hat to where it all started, referencing the original 1986 campaign that featured Texas legend Stevie Ray Vaughan and encouraged Texans to take pride in not littering.
“Back in ’86, Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired Texans to take pride in ending roadside litter. That spirit lives on. Let’s keep it going and do our part to keep Texas looking its best.”
He goes on to say he’s proud to be part of a message that’s meant something to Texans for generations. “Don’t mess with Texas has meant don’t litter for 40 years,” he says. “Let’s keep it up.”
Since its launch, the Don’t Mess With Texas campaign has helped dramatically reduce litter across the state, turning a simple message into one of the most recognizable slogans in Texas history.
