It’s hard to imagine Texas country without Beer, Bait & Ammo. But here we are, 25 years later, and Kevin Fowler is celebrating the anniversary of the song that helped define an entire scene.
Released back in 2000, “Beer, Bait & Ammo” wasn’t just a song, it was a mission statement. Equal parts rowdy, relatable, and proudly Texan, it became an instant anthem for dancehalls, tailgates, backyards, and just about every bar worth its salt across the state. If you were anywhere near Texas country in the early 2000s (or honestly… ever), this song was part of your life whether you realized it or not.
To mark the milestone, a lineup of Texas country heavy-hitters have come together to share tribute videos, telling their own stories and memories tied to the song and its impact. Artists like Eli Young Band, Randall King, Roger Creager, Pat Green, Casey Donahew, and Aaron Watson (and more) all chimed in and the common thread is clear: this song mattered.
For some, it was the soundtrack to their early bar gigs. For others, it was a road-trip staple or the song that made them realize Texas country was its own world, separate from anything coming out of Nashville at the time. No matter the story, the respect for Fowler and what “Beer, Bait & Ammo” represents comes through loud and clear.
A quarter century later, the song still hits the same … maybe even harder … because it reminds us of where this scene came from and why it works. It’s simple, it’s honest, and it doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. That’s Texas country in a nutshell.
Scroll through below and watch the tribute videos from the artists who’ve lived it, played it, and carried it forward. Happy 25th to one of the most iconic anthems Texas country has ever known and cheers to Kevin Fowler for giving us a song that refuses to age.
