To celebrate the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th birthday, Vince Gill delivered one of the night’s standout moments with a heartfelt performance of “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”
The Opry asked fans to vote for the most iconic song in its history, and George Jones’ classic easily took the top spot, making Vince the one to step up and sing it on the big night.
Before starting, Vince admitted the nerves were real. Taking on a song often called the greatest country song of all time is no small task, but he handled it with the kind of emotion and respect only Vince Gill can bring. His performance served as both a tribute to George Jones and a nod to the Opry’s century-long legacy.
It was a simple, powerful moment that reminded everyone why the Opry continues to matter after 100 years.
