Big news out of Nashville: The Mavericks are pulling together a special two-night celebration in honor of their frontman Raul Malo. On December 5-6th, the legendary band will host “Dance The Night Away” at the Ryman Auditorium with a tribute event that reaches back through their 35-year catalog and forward in thanks for the man who’s led the ride.
Malo won’t be taking the stage this time around (he’s been battling health concerns), but he will be present, honored and very much at the center of the celebration. Over 25 artists, friends of the Mavericks, collaborators and country/Rockabilly heavy-hitters Chuck Mead, Cimafunk, Emily West, Hector Tellez Jr., Jamie Hanna, James Otto, Jamey Johnson, JD McPherson, Jeff Hanna, Jesse Dayton, Jim Lauderdale, Jimmie Vaughan, Joshua Ray Walker, Maggie Rose, Mandy Barnett, Marty Stuart, Nicole Atkins, Nikki Lane, Patty Griffin, Ray Benson, Seth Walker, Steve Earle, Sweet Lizzy Project, Wade Hayes, Waylon Payne, and Wendy Moten
The tribute isn’t just nostalgia: it’s a full-on love letter to Malo’s work and the Mavericks’ trailblazing mix of American roots, Latin rhythms and rock-abilly swagger. A portion of the night’s proceeds will go to the charity Stand Up To Cancer, honoring Malo’s own journey and the community that’s rallied around him.
This one’s a reminder of how deep and wide the Mavericks’ impact has been. Expect stories, laughs, tears, and plenty of music rolled into two unforgettable nights.
