The songwriting world is mourning the loss of one of its most colorful, clever, and beloved characters. Todd Snider, troubadour, storyteller, poet, and self-proclaimed “funky folk” philosopher, has passed away.
Snider was one of those rare artists who didn’t just write songs… he lived them. Whether he was spinning hilarious off-the-wall stories, shining a light on life’s underdogs, or delivering gut-punch lyrics that stopped you in your tracks, Todd always did it with heart, humor, and honesty. His fans didn’t just listen to him – they felt like they knew him.
From early favorites like “Alright Guy” and “Beer Run,” to deeper cuts that became cult classics, Snider built a devoted following across Texas, Nashville, and every dive bar, listening room, and festival in between. He never chased trends or polished the edges. He was authentic to the bone: a poet with a guitar, wandering the country and telling the truth as he saw it.
His passing leaves a huge hole in the Americana and songwriter community. So many artists, from Texas legends to rising Red Dirt names, credit him for shaping their sound, inspiring their writing, or simply reminding them not to take life too seriously.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, fellow musicians, and the fans who loved him fiercely. May his stories live on, may his songs never fade, and may we all try to keep a little bit of that Todd Snider spirit alive: unfiltered, generous, curious, and always ready with a good tale.
Rest easy, Todd. Thanks for the music. Thanks for the miles.
