Back on October 20, 2011, the Texas boys of Eli Young Band officially earned their very first platinum single from the RIAA for their breakout hit “Crazy Girl.”
The song, written by Liz Rose and Lee Brice, marked a huge turning point for the Denton-based group, catapulting them from the Texas Red Dirt circuit onto the national stage. “Crazy Girl” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart earlier that year and went on to become one of the most-played country tracks of 2011.
The heartfelt lyrics and simple, honest delivery connected with fans everywhere and helped introduce Mike Eli, James Young, Jon Jones, and Chris Thompson to a much bigger audience. The success of “Crazy Girl” also paved the way for the band’s next wave of hits, including “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” and “Drunk Last Night.”
Four Texans, one unforgettable song and a moment that changed everything for the Eli Young Band.
