Jake Owen is leaning into a whole new chapter and he’s doing it with a Jerry Lee Lewis classic.
The country star has released his version of “Middle Age Crazy,” just weeks before his first independent studio album “Dreams to Dream” drops on November 7th.
Originally recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis, the song tells the story of a man who’s lived the life he was supposed to only to hit that midlife moment where he starts wondering what’s next. (Been there, done that!) Owen says he’s always loved that story:
“He’s kind of done everything he’s supposed to, but he hits this middle-aged point in his life where he wants to make a change and prove that he still can.”
“Middle Age Crazy” follows a string of releases from the upcoming album, including “Long Time Lovin’ You,” “Dreams to Dream,” and a reimagined cover of Waylon Jennings’ “Them Old Love Songs” which Jake recorded alongside Waylon’s son, Shooter Jennings.
Reflecting on his first fully independent record, Owen says stepping outside the box was part of the plan:
“Sometimes you need to get outside what’s comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk. I’m always going to chase the passions that keep me moving forward.”
Looks like Jake’s not just singing about being “Middle Age Crazy” … he’s living it in the best way possible.
