You’d think a sweet love song about football and romance would make people smile… but apparently not everyone took Megan Moroney’s “Tennessee Orange” that way.
Megan recently told Seth Meyers that when her breakout song first came out, she actually got death threats over it.
If you missed it, the Georgia native wrote “Tennessee Orange” about falling for a guy who just so happens to root for her team’s biggest rival, the Tennessee Volunteers. In the song, she sings about putting on that Vols T-shirt for love, which if you’re a hardcore Georgia Bulldog, is basically treason.
And yep, she’s since admitted what a lot of fans already guessed and the song was inspired by Morgan Wallen. The Tennessee shirt she wore in promo pics? It was reportedly his.
Megan said she got the idea after moving to Nashville and imagining what her mom would say if she saw her wearing that shirt. Turns out, she wasn’t wrong — some people really did lose their minds over it.
Still, the whole thing worked out pretty well for her. “Tennessee Orange” ended up being her breakout hit and launched her into country stardom.
