Some songs in country music are just untouchable… or so we thought. Texas up-and-comer Braxton Keith has decided to tip his hat to the King himself with a brand-new cover of George Strait’s “The Chair.”
Originally released in 1985, “The Chair” is one of George’s most iconic story-songs built around a smooth pick-up line and a slow-burn romance. It’s the kind of track that made Strait a household name and cemented his title as the King of Country.
Braxton doesn’t try to out-George George (because let’s be honest, no one can), but he does deliver the song with a rich baritone and a fresh, Texas-bred style that feels both respectful and new. His version leans into the traditional country roots that Strait fans love while giving younger audiences a reason to revisit the classic.
With his cowboy image, traditional sound, and knack for storytelling, Braxton Keith is quickly becoming one of the most exciting voices out of Texas. Covering a Strait song this early in his career is a bold move, but judging by the buzz it’s creating, it was the right one.
