If you’ve been watching Landman on Paramount+, you know the drama’s heavy with oil money, backroom deals, Billy Bob Thornton doing what he does best. But here’s the twist: Billy Bob hasn’t just been acting… he’s been making music for the show, too.
Yep, Thornton teamed up with his buddy Mark Collie, and the two of them co-wrote and produced five songs for the official Landman soundtrack. While they were out filming, they were also scribbling down lyrics, banging out melodies, and turning the vibe of the show into songs.
The first soundtrack – Landman: Songs From and Inspired by the Paramount+ Original Series (Vol. 1) – drops this Friday. And the lineup is stacked.
Some of the highlights:
-
Billy Gibbons (yes, ZZ Top Billy Gibbons) brings the Texas groove on “Livin’ It Up Down in Texas.”
-
Dwight Yoakam lends his twang to “That’s What Lonely People Do.”
-
Ronnie Dunn jumps in on “Blood for Black Gold” and Billy Bob Thornton is actually playing drums on it.
-
Flatland Cavalry cut “Midland After Midnight,” written solely by Thornton and Collie.
- Parker McCollum featured on the track “She’ll Dance for Whiskey” which he co-wrote with Thornton, Collie, and McCollum.
-
Oh, and there’s a little collab between George Strait and Chris Stapleton called “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame.” No big deal.
Other names on the tracklist include Brent Cobb, Clint Black, Ella Langley, Drayton Farley, and The Red Clay Strays. Basically, it’s a who’s-who of country and Americana right now.
Christian Wallace, who co-created the series, said the music wasn’t an afterthought and Thornton and Collie were literally writing songs on set. Billy Bob even admitted, “We wrote a couple of songs inspired by the area and the business world… maybe they’ll end up somewhere.” Looks like “somewhere” turned into a whole album.
Season 2 of Landman is set to drop on November 16th, 2025.
