The Emmys brought a little Miami magic to Hollywood last night with a special tribute to The Golden Girls.
Reba McEntire teamed up with Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman from Little Big Town to perform the show’s theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend.” The performance took place on a recreated version of the famous kitchen set, the one where Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia shared laughs, gossip, and plenty of cheesecake.
Reba reminded the audience that those four characters are still just as iconic today as they were when the show debuted 40 years ago. Kimberly added a heartfelt, “Thank you for being our friends.”
It was a meaningful night for Reba too, marking her first big performance since the loss of her stepson. You could feel the emotion in the room, and fans at home were right there singing along.
After the tribute, the trio presented the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Comedy, which went to Hannah Einbinder for her role in Hacks.
From 1985 to 1992, The Golden Girls showed us the power of friendship and humor. And last night’s Emmy moment proved that their legacy is still shining bright 40 years later.
