Okay, y’all… it’s time to settle one of the sweetest mysteries out there: Why do some Girl Scout cookies have more than one name?!
If you’ve ever gotten into a heated front-porch debate about whether they’re called Samoas or Caramel deLites, here’s the scoop:
It’s not you.
It’s not the Girl Scouts.
It’s the bakeries.
The Girl Scouts of the USA partner with two different bakeries to make those little boxes of happiness:
-
Little Brownie Bakers (Team Samoa)
-
ABC Bakers (Team Caramel deLite)
Depending on where you live, your local Girl Scout council works with one bakery or the other, which means your cookies might have different names, slightly different recipes, and sometimes even a different chocolate-to-coconut ratio. (Yes, we’ve noticed. Yes, we care.)
And it’s not just Samoas vs. Caramel deLites:
| If You Call Them… | Someone Else Calls Them… |
|---|---|
| Samoas | Caramel deLites |
| Tagalongs | Peanut Butter Patties |
| Trefoils | Shortbread |
| Do-si-dos | Peanut Butter Sandwiches |
So basically, you and your friend in another state might be talking about the exact same cookie… while both thinking the other one is wrong.
Honestly? We say buy ‘em all. Call them whatever you want. Dunk them in milk, freeze them, or hide them from your family behind the peas in the freezer (not speaking from experience or anything).
At the end of the day, whether you’re Team Samoa or Team Caramel deLite, we can all agree on one thing: Thin Mints belong in the freezer.
We don’t make the rules.
