George Strait is getting the ultimate country music honor, he’s been named a 2025 Kennedy Center Honoree. The King of Country will be celebrated alongside some big names: actor Sylvester Stallone, the rock band KISS, disco legend Gloria Gaynor, and theater star Michael Crawford.
The announcement came straight from President Donald Trump, who recently took over as chairman of the Kennedy Center. This marks the first time he’s had a hand in selecting the honorees, and he mentioned he was “about 98% involved” in the process.
The Kennedy Center Honors ceremony is set for December in Washington, D.C., and will air on CBS. Traditionally, honorees are recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. Strait joins a prestigious list of past country honorees, including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Loretta Lynn.
So, if you’re a fan of King George, and who isn’t? … mark your calendars for December … it’s going to be a night to remember.
Congrats, Mr. Strait!
