The legendary singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett died the night of Sept. 1, he was 76.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” a statement on his website said. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
The statement didn’t say where Buffett died or provide a cause of death. The singer had rescheduled concerts in May, and Buffett said on social media that he had been hospitalized.

“Parrotheads,” the affectionately known group of Buffett super-fans flooded social media Saturday morning with tributes and memories.
Jimmy Buffett was more than a musician and colorful lyricist. He was the founder of resorts, restaurants, and many other business entities born from the “island-time” theme that bolstered much of his musical portfolio.
Buffett was nominated for two Grammy Awards, one for “Hey Good Lookin’” — a cover of the Hank Williams classic — and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” a duet with country singer Alan Jackson.
Backed by the Coral Reefer Band, Buffett published 27 albums over his 50 years. Four albums went platinum and eight gold.
As late as last week, Buffett’s camp was promoting a sneak peek into a new album release.
