Paying tribute to one of the greatest songwriters of all time is no easy task but one Willie Nelson, George Strait, Miranda Lambert and more were willing to do.
The new album “Live Forever: A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver,” will be released November 11th and can be pre-ordered now.
“Live Forever” is covered by Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams and it’s streaming now.
Willie also covers “Georgia on a Fast Train.”
Other artists included on the project include Ryan Bingham, Nikki Lane, Rodney Crowell, Amanda Shires, Nathaniel Rateliff, Edie Brickell, Steve Earl, Margo Price and Allison Russell.
George Strait sings his rendition of “Willy the Wandering Gypsy and Me” and Miranda Lambert covers “I’m Just An Old Chunk of Coal.”
Shaver passed away in 2020 and asked his dear friend and Austinite Freddy Fletcher to make sure his music would live on. Fletcher co-produced the album with Charlie Sexton. Fletcher is also the co-owner of the legendary Arlyn studio.
