Garth Brooks has won just about every award imaginable for being a heck of a performer in country music and now he will be given an extremely high honor for his songwriting.
The Nashville Songwriters Association will have its annual Nashville Songwriter Awards at the Ryman Auditorium on September 20th. Kris Kristofferson has made his choice on who he will honor for the songwriter Lifetime Achievement Award, Garth Brooks.
“It’s pretty damn embarrassing to give a man of Garth’s stature an award with my name on it, when Willie got one he said he could take care of that. Congratulations Garth, I am truly humbled and honored that you have accepted this! You belong on Mount Rushmore. See you there.” – Kris Kristofferson
Garth is honored and addressed how big a deal this honor is:
“When they name awards after artists, that award takes on an even greater meaning. Kristofferson is known as the songwriter’s songwriter… and he should be, the honor is the name on the award and the names who have received it. My hope is that through time, the Garth Brooks name is worthy of such an honor. This is going to be a cool night.” – Garth Brooks

Now some folks might not think Garth is worthy of a songwriters award but if Kris thinks he does that’s all that matters. Kris has only awarded 4 people since it began in 2013 with Willie Nelson, Bill Anderson, Loretta Lynn and now Garth.
One of Garth’s most famous cowrites is ‘The Thunder Rolls’
