As summer winds down, make sure you make the most of the sunshine by visiting one of Austin’s locals favorite swimming spots, Barking Springs.
This spring is a part of the Barton Creek tributary located on the East side of Barton Springs. The chilly water from Barton flows through a dam into Barking Springs making it a great place to cool off from the Texas heat.
This spring differs from Barton Springs because there is no entrance fee, no lifeguards, and welcomes pets! It also offers paddleboard and kayak rentals through Zilker Park Boat Rentals.
The spring can be accessed through a few different entrances located around the Zilker Park Playground. If you have trouble finding an entrance, make sure to ask a friendly local for directions.
The environment is family-friendly and fun for all ages. Feel free to bring a cooler full of your favorite summertime beverages and don’t forget your water shoes!
