Dolly Parton continues to make headline news on the national stage and her home state of Tennessee is doing everything they can to recognize her.
The ‘9 to 5’ singer recently turned down being honored via a statue at the Tennessee State Legislature’s chambers in Nashville, but she may allow a different type of honor to happen. Tennessee lawmakers Rep. Mike Sparks and Sen. Raumesh Akbari have created a bill to have Dolly’s rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ become the state’s official hymn.
House Bill 938 goes over the significance of the hymn and even mentions other artists who have sung it, such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Garth Brooks, but if passed would have Dolly’s version be the official one.
I don’t really know what the process is for passing this sort of thing, but hey maybe it’s something a bunch of politicians could get done, I mean sometimes things like that happen.
