The 54th annual CMA Awards air Wednesday, November 11th on ABC. There’s one artist will not win and it’s partially on his own terms. That artist is the one and only Garth Brooks.
Garth took himself out of the Entertainer of the Year category after he won it last year for a record seventh time. Now some folks thought him holding a press conference was a little much while others who thinks Garth can do no wrong loved. But now we’re finding out some fellow artists weren’t too keen on Garth winning it at all last year.
One of those artists is Miranda Lambert. She recently spoke with the LA Times about Garth taking home the big award last year “I think last year was bullsh** and that Carrie Underwood should have taken it, I’m still a little bit grudge-y about it. Although I love Garth—he was my first concert when I was 10 years old—there’s times and places for things, and I just felt like it was the wrong thing. But this year I’m excited because I feel like it’s the way that it should be. And maybe that’s because he pulled out of it; I don’t know. But I think everyone in the category deserves to be there.”
She had that interview alongside Ashley McBryde who had a nicer take on it “I know there are people that are upset about it and people that are delighted about it. But [Garth] doesn’t do anything that he hasn’t thought through completely.”
Miranda is nominated for the big award this year, but I’m going to go with Luke Combs winning it. With no tours this year I can’t see Eric Church (who deserves one of those) taking it home.
