For the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s BIG NIGHT (At the Museum), Ashley McBryde sings in tribute to Loretta Lynn, playing “You’re Lookin’ at Country” on the 1956 J-50 Gibson guitar that Lynn’s husband, Doolittle Lynn, purchased for his wife in 1961.
McBryde has long loved Lynn’s songs, and she connects with the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s spirit as an outsider who fought her way to the inside.
When approached about playing Lynn’s guitar for the BIG NIGHT, McBryde emphatically agreed. Offered her choice of Lynn’s songs to sing, McBryde immediately gravitated to “You’re Lookin’ at Country,” a tale of rural life that binds Lynn’s Kentucky home to McBryde’s girlhood in Arkansas.
