I’m going to say it now, Maren Morris has another number one on her hands.
Her latest radio single ‘To Hell and Back’ is yet to crack the top 40, but it has all the potential in the world and I think the world needs it right now.
It has a very contemporary sound, but the lyrics are what country music is all about.
Taste of Country states that it’s her most Vulnerable single to date. When you listen it’s easy to understand why.
The native Texan co-wrote the song touching on pure and true love. The chorus says it all.
You didn’t save me
You didn’t think I needed saving
You didn’t change me
You didn’t think I needed changing
My wings are frayed and what’s left of my halo’s black
Lucky for me, your kind of heaven’s been to Hell and back
To Hell and back
Whether it’s platonic or romantic love we all need to remember that we’ve all gone through hell and trying to force someone to change rarely works and when it does, how much damage is caused? We all need to grow, but loving someone for who they are is the greatest thing of all.
There’s one line in the beginning that is punch you in the gut good “Now, heartbreak ain’t a competition, but I took it in a landslide”. Golly, that one got me. Got me good.
